WWII Veteran Soaring Valor trip - July 17, Asking For Your Help and Support

Subject: WWII Veteran Soaring Valor trip - July 17
Reply-To: Jim Hodgson <jhodgson3@comcast.net>

Good Morning Everyone,
I am asking for your help and support.
The Gary Sinise Foundation is going to honor WWII Vetertans from Detroit and lower Michigan on July 17; with a Soaring Valor program trip to visit the National WWII Museum in New Orleans. There are 30 WWII Veterans and their Guardians who have signed up for this 3 day trip, there will be no high school children. This will be the only Soaring Valor trip for the Detroit area and most likley the last major event these aging men and women will attend honoring their efforts in WWII.
American Airlines is furnishing a charter flight out of the North Terminal and they are hoping that we can get enough people to give these men and women a patriotic send off. AA will issue a special pass to all that attend, so they can get through TSA security.
Currently the Sinise Foundation is firming plans for the morning on July 17. The concept is to have all the Veterans and their Guardians meet at a Metro Airport hotel and depart in a bus to the North Terminal, hence they all arrive as a group. AA expects that Bon Voage volunteers to arrive mid morning at the AA ticket counter and be in the terminal for 2-3 hours. AA would like to see folks wear their faternal colors or their old military uniforms (no way can I fit in mine).
I have agreed to help AA make a list of those that would like to join the Bon Voage Crew.
I will need full name, e-mail address and Date of Birth as it appears on the Drivers Licence or Government Picture ID in order for AA to generate a TSA Pass.
Please ask your members friends and neighbors to join the Bon Voage Crew and send me an e-mail with their information; I will generate a roster for American Airlines to cut TSA Passes.
As plans firm up I will let all know timing details.
Please pass this email on to all that may like to join.
Please send e-mails to Jim Hodgson, jhodgson3@comcast.net;  or call 734-416-5159 h or 734-239-1777 c.
Thank You and God Bless
Jim Hodgson

American Airlines Is Asking Veterans to Participate In The Soaring Valor Program On July 17th. At Metro Airport That Is Leaving For WWII Museum in New Orleans

Comrades, Family and Friends,
FYI

Dear Freedom Center Supporter,
On July 17th, American Airlines is coordinating a sendoff celebration for WWII veterans participating in the Soaring Valor program organized by actor Gary Senise. Participants in the program will visit the WWII Museum in New Orleans.
In support of this event, American Airlines has asked us to assist in the following ways:
1. Invite veterans from all eras to participate in an enthusiastic receiving line as the WWII veterans participating in the program make their way to the gate for their flight.
2. Ask our community if we know of a nostalgic "Andrews sisters" group that could entertain during the event.
3. Identify WWII veterans who would be interested in participating in the Soaring Valor program next year.
If you are able to assist in any of the above ways, please contact Crystal Barnes at American Airlines. She can be reached at (734)942-5109 or Crystal.Barnes@AA.com.

2019 Michigan Legacy Run Update - April 18, 2019

TO: Zone, District, and Post Commanders

Greetings Commanders and Fellow Legionnaires,

It is time once again for our annual Legacy Run. If you are not familiar with the event, we would like you to be more informed and realize the reason we do it, what is done with the money raised and how you can help contribute to it being a success!

What is the event? The event is a 2 days ride (cars and motorcycles) that starts at a different American Legion Post each year and ends at the State Convention. This year's run starts in Trenton, winds around the bottom of the state and ends in Kalamazoo, with an overnight stay in New Buffalo.  It is run by a Committee and the host post-American Legion Riders. These groups are comprised of members from all three parts of the family across the state. Planning for this year's run started last August.

What is Done with the money raised? 100% of funds go to the American Legion Legacy Scholarship Fund. Part of this package has information about the fund and how it is managed nationally by The American Legion. All personnel involved are 100% volunteer and all funds are given to the State Commander to present at the National Convention.

How YOU Can Help? Spread the word, be a cheerleader, motivate people to attend one of our stops (if able) or just hold a fundraiser for the cause. We are giving you this package to spread the word and information about the run to the posts within your respective areas. We have posts identified for us to stop at, rest and to raise money while we are there. We've included a rough itinerary with this package so you may see where we plan to stop and the rough time. The roads are just thawing, and we are working on our route maps and final Itinerary. These should be available in late May for download from the state website. You can also help by posting the flyer at the posts as well, this has the webpage information at the bottom. We would love to go to every corner of this great and vast state; however, we cannot do so and keep the event to 2 days.

Sincerely,

Jerry "Mouse" Lundquist

Honor our law enforcement officers

Dear American Legion Family and Friends,

Today is Peace Officers Memorial Day, a day when we pause to give thanks to law enforcement officers who have been killed or disabled in the line of duty.

As veterans, we understand the courage it takes to provide security, rush into harm's way and keep Americans safe. The sacrifices made by our law enforcement officers deserve to be honored. It's something we owe to our brave heroes – and their families.

Perhaps it is fitting that a veteran and Legionnaire – President John F. Kennedy – initiated Peace Officers Memorial Day in 1962 when he signed a proclamation designating the day.

As part of Police Week, tens of thousands of law enforcement officers have gathered in Washington, D.C., to participate in events to honor those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice. The majority of those events are related to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Wall. The memorial feature the names of more than 21,100 law enforcement officers who have been killed in the line of duty.

While the deaths of some officers in the line of duty receive more media attention than others, all are to be remembered. And, sadly, there are far too many who will be honored for the first time this year.

Let us all pause today to remember these heroes. At the same time, our thoughts should be with them more frequently than just every May 15.

Our nation's law enforcement officers dedicate their lives to defending us from enemies on our own soil, providing critical relief during disasters and keeping our neighborhoods safe as we enjoy the comforts of civilian life.

Celebrating our legacy.

Brett Reistad
National Commander
